Client Summary

The Town of Harrisburg, located right outside Charlotte, NC, needed a new website to keep up with the growing population. Their website was functional, but wasn’t gaining traffic and wasn’t living up to its full potential. Harrisburg wanted a website that reflected the quaint, yet growing nature of the town, and one that would boost tourism while also providing value to residents.  

The Challenge

The Town came to Command Partners to create a new website with many goals in mind. Their top priority was to find an effective two-way communication method for the Town and its citizens and businesses in order to improve community engagement. The key was to make a website that was informative and user-friendly so that residents and potential tourists alike could find all the information they needed without being overwhelmed.

Our Strategy

Command Partners’ strategy for creating a comprehensive website for Town of Harrisburg involved creating and organizing content in a way that appeals to both residents and potential businesses. The key was organizing the information so that any visitor to the site could easily find the information they were looking for without extraneous searching. In order to make sure updates, alerts, and important information were uniform across all channels, Command Partners also provided social media consulting services to the Town, effectively growing Harrisburg’s presence on both Facebook and Twitter.

For residents and town visitors alike, the new website offers a community calendar, shopping & dining recommendations, a list of things to do, an interactive roadwork update map, access to the Chamber of Commerce, and information on the library, schools, and transportation. Residents have incentive to visit the website regularly to access town updates, such as weather reports and garbage and recycling pickup status. And, with an online bill pay feature, users can electronically pay their utility bills, Parks & Recreation fees and Planning & Zoning fees.

Results

Through the website redesign, Command Partners was able to help Harrisburg improve communication and engagement with residents by increasing the number of average monthly sessions on the site to more than the Town’s population, and increasing followers on Twitter by 134.35%. The new website also put the town on Money Magazine’s radar and helped land them on the “Top 50 Places to Live” for the first time. Other results included:

  • Increased the number of average monthly sessions on the site to 16,580 (more than the Town’s population of 13,788 in 2013)

  • Increased percentage of new visitors to the site to 48%

  • Decreased bounce rate by 22.86 percentage points

  • Increased followers on Twitter by 134.35%
